What is Preventative Maintenance (PM)?
Preventative Maintenance (PM) is a step in the calibration process that greatly enhances the longevity of your instrument. PM includes full disassembly, interior & exterior cleaning, piston polishing & re-greasing, and new seals/o-rings are replaced as needed. An in-depth PM process helps keep your pipettes operating at peak performance in between your regularly scheduled calibration service dates.
What is the difference between Onsite vs. Offsite Calibration?
Professional calibration laboratories meet ISO 17025 standards since they control the environmental conditions (i.e. temperature, humidity, air flow, and direct sunlight) and use the proper equipment (ultra-micro balances situated on marble tables). Onsite service providers often times cannot control the environmental conditions where they are performing calibration, and their equipment used (balances) may not be accurate due to frequent transportation and mishandling. It has been noted by The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), that higher measurement uncertainties are expected from onsite calibration. All of these factors greatly contribute to the accuracy, legitimacy, and overall calibration results. For more information, please see the A2LA Policy P104.
Do you Calibrate Onsite?
No, we do not offer any onsite services due to limited control of environmental conditions. The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), published a policy in 2012 stating that higher measurement uncertainties are expected from onsite calibration. View that policy here: A2LA Policy P104
What is Total Pipette Management (TPM)?
TPM is a pipette management & audit preparatory software that helps completely streamline the calibration process and ensure that you’re audit-ready 24/7. TPM will allow you to manage all of your pipettes electronically and store all important documents online (i.e. Calibration Reports, GMP/GLP Reports, calibration history, shipping data, invoices, manuals, etc.). TPM has allowed many companies to go completely paperless and achieve those green alternatives. That means no more binders and excel spreadsheets! With TPM, managing 100+ pipettes becomes simple and stress-free. Schedule a free webinar or phone consultation by emailing info(at)pipette(dot)com
What is Pipette Calibration?
It is a process of examining and or adjusting the pipettes to the true value by comparison to the standard which is set by the manufacturer of that said pipette. The standard in this case is the pipetting range set by the pipette manufacturer to be accurate and precise at low volume and high volume of the pipette.
How do I get Free Shipping?
The following orders qualify for free 2nd day shipping; Calibration orders for 5 pipettes or more or Verification orders for 10 pipettes or more. Next Day shipping is available for a nominal fee.

Why is Metrology Based Pipette Calibration Important?
Metrology is defined as a science of measurement. Metrology based pipette calibration provides a platform where the process is done within strict guidelines of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This ensures that there is a methodology and a standard set for all of the equipment used to calibrate the pipettes. If this standard is not followed there cannot be a statistical guarantee that your results are accurate to true standards.
Science is based on reproducible results. When reproducible results cannot be achieved all work is voided. Thus, scientists must strive that all of their work is reproducible. In order to achieve reproducibility scientists must have accurate and precise equipment. Pipettes are the cornerstone of all research, thus they must always be precise and accurate. In order to achieve this scientists must choose pipette service providers that follow strict metrology guidelines. Providers whose equipment is also calibrated and follows strict NIST rules can provide accurate and precise results giving you informative data on the status of your work and your pipette.
Without metrology based calibration one cannot statistically say if the pipette is truly within range, it is simply an assumption using an uncertified piece of equipment.
